Vail Valley officials say the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships -which will be held at the Vail and Beaver Creek ski resorts, bring athletes from about 75 countries and be televised worldwide-will have a large impact on the area and the state's ski industry. John Dakin, vice president of communications for the Vail Valley Foundation has reason to be confident in the prediction. In 1987-88, the season before Vail first hosted the championships in 1989, less than 4 percent of Vail's skier visits came from other countries; in 1989-90, that percentage tripled to more than 12 percent. Last year's championships in Val d'Isere, France drew about 260,000 spectators.
